A directory for families who can't just book anywhere

Campgrounds rated for the things that actually ruin the trip.

Not star ratings. Not pool photos. Every listing is scored on sensory load — noise, night lighting, crowding, and how far it is to somewhere quiet — plus what the dog rules really say and what there is to do nearby that suits your kid.

The directory

Listings below are placeholders showing the structure. Replace the entries in the data block at the bottom of this file with real campgrounds as you visit and verify them.

How we rate

Every campground directory rates cleanliness and hookups. None of them rate the things that decide whether your family sleeps. These are the four we score, and why.

Night sound

Generator hours, highway and rail noise, how close the nearest site sits, and whether quiet hours are actually enforced or just posted.

Night light

Pole lighting, security floods, and whether the bathhouse throws light across the loop. A bright campground is a sleepless one.

Crowding and exits

Site spacing, whether you can reach a quiet space on foot without crossing the busy loop, and how easy it is to leave quickly if you need to.

Bathrooms

Private single rooms versus communal, hand dryers versus paper towels, and the echo. Hand dryers end more trips than bad weather.

Writing

Trip planning, gear that earns its space, and the parts of travelling with a sensory-sensitive child that nobody puts in a brochure.

How this site makes money

Some links here are affiliate links, which means we may earn a commission if you book or buy through them. It costs you nothing extra.

What that does not change: a campground cannot pay to be listed, cannot pay to be rated higher, and cannot pay to have a rating removed. Several listings here have no affiliate relationship at all and are included because they're good. Where we've stayed somewhere ourselves, we say so.

If a rating ever seems inconsistent with your experience of a place, tell us — the correction is the product.
